My dear, this is nothing. You should see how worked up the Potter-heads get. HEY >:/! You were a Potterholic once too! *shakes fist* Quiet woman! You know not of what you speak! (And on that note, my mum bought me my first and only bit of Potterphernalia. A backpack. It's nice, actually. I'll just cover the little 'HP' logo with a few buttons and voila~)

Ah, Christine..... How dramatic! Did anyone noticed that she barely had any emotion on her face through the movie except for a few times? Just....blank....

I would be incredibly surprised if a single person who saw the movie DIDN'T notice that...

That's why I didn't like Christine. o.o She had like.....no emotion in her face at all. And the few times she did, it didn't reach her eyes. *tsk tsk tsk* That's bad form...very bad form indeed.

I was more distracted by how she never, ever closed her mouth. :o I joke a lot about how it's clearly meant to remind the watcher (mainly the Phantom) of oral sex, but I (and my feminist side) am actually quite serious about that. This is why I couldn't stand her. n.n

In 'the olden days' (that era, and before) a lady never let her mouth gape, most likely for that exact reason. It was considered seductive.
And never watch the movie with theatre folk. We just sit there and go, "The dubbing is horrible!" "Look at that, look, they're not even trying to act." "Oooh, pretty costume. Now if only we'd been able to get costumes like that!" (And then it degenerates into bickering between cast and crew, but let's not get into that =3 ...I jest, I jest.) Basically, we tear it to shreds...except during preferred songs, of course! Geez... </ramble>

Another reason why I don't like Christine (both Emmy Rossum's and Sarah Brightman's portrayals)---
*eye twitches*
She pulls her tongue back when she sings!!! You're not supposed to pull your tongue back when you sing!! When you do that, your palate closes and the sound doesn't resonate!
*has to be dragged away by ze men-in-white-coats*

Remember that the new movie, at least, is dubbed over. Apparently (rumour, rumour) the actress doesn't sing.

...didn't Emmy Rossum perform in the New York Opera since she was about seven? That sounds like just that: a rumour.

Even if she sang at the Met at the age of seven, what conceivable roles of importance could she have? I don't see seven-year-olds strutting about singing the title role of Carmen or singing Marguerite or Zerlina.
She'd be in the children's chorus, if anything else, and that doesn't necessarily mean she's decent enough for an important solo role.

I have to say, I'm not a huge fan of the character Christine in general. In the stage production and movie you kind of had to pity how stupid she was (ya' know, falling for the whole "I am your angel of music trick" twice in a row). In the book though, I had no sympathy for her character. She seemed to enjoy playing with the minds of the two men who would kill for her or die for her; fun, but vindictive.
OK, sorry, done with my Christine rant now.

But, in all honesty, is it probable/plausible that the filmmakers would A: Choose an actress who could not sing the role, B: Hire a singer to dub her part , and C: Keep it very hush hush, for some inexplicable reason?

You never know, but I doubt it. It would have made it's way out by now, if it had.
Regardless, I suppose Rossum may have a decent enough voice when it matures, but I cannot stand the way she slides her notes. It's so grating...!
