Well, I mean, she has potential, at least. Her voice isn't my favorite, but she has more talent than Florence Jenkins Foster, which is a mercy, so...

Also, take into consideration that she is probably the youngest Christine ever compared to those from the show.
It's not easy. I didn't do as good as I could too when I was Christine, I was like 12 or something. Not my best performance, though it was still a good experience.

She annoys me the most because she sounds like me when I'm getting up into higher ranges. And while that's not necessarily something horrible, it also means that she's no better than someone who has never received any vocal training, played only chorus in high school musicals, and, most importantly, has a long way to go before she's the least bit exceptional. -That's- why I hated their casting choice. It sounds like they got someone for the part who's on the same vocal level as I am, and that's just wrong. Seriously. And I'm saying this as a bad thing, by the way, not to elevate myself. I'm my own worst critic, and therefore hers too. n.nb
I think the movie would have been better if both the leads could sing, actually. I have no mercy in calling Mr. Phantom talentless as well, considering he basically growled most of his notes.
Why would they do that? It slays me. It's a fucking musical. Casting people who have pretty faces but mediocre voices is absolutely unforgivable.
Now I'm all riled up. Stupid Phantom movie... *mutters*

With the Phantom ...out of the whole musical, I don't have a line that I like best. I have a word: triumphant! (From Masquerade.)
Casting musicals is interesting. Unfortunately, not all people with good voices are great to look at, and that has to be taken into consideration (which irritates me to no end, and is why I like animated stuff, I suppose).
Take, for example, the musical we put on this year. The best singer of the young women was a notably large classmate of mine, and she had to have a semi-supporting role, with barely three lines out of chorus/cast. She didn't even get the most noted solo in the production, which went to a girl who, although good, wasn't as good. She was smaller, though, and so...Ugh, I don't know. Me, I'll hide out backstage; I had my fill of onstage when I was younger.

Carmella is Carmella; this would be Christine, a new alt (you wouldn't be playing the part of Christine as an actor ICly, I mean, you would -be- her, playing the actual character. Does that make sense?) So you still can. n.n
